Champagne

What is grower Champagne?

Grower Champagne usually means the same estate grows the grapes and makes the wine. It is not automatically better than a Grande Marque bottle, but it often gives a more direct view of village, vineyard, farming and cellar decisions. That producer-led character is why it fits Cave's wider approach to wine.

Styles to know

Blanc de Blancs is made from white grapes, usually Chardonnay, and often feels crisp, mineral and fine. Blanc de Noirs is made from red grapes such as Pinot Noir and Meunier, giving more fruit and structure. Rose Champagne can range from delicate to vinous, while extra brut and zero dosage styles usually feel drier and more direct.

Choosing Champagne

For aperitifs, look for freshness, fine bubbles and a clean finish. For food, Champagne can be broader: richer cuvees work with roast chicken, fried food, mushrooms, cheese and seafood. Producer style matters as much as grape or dosage, so the grower pages are useful when comparing bottles.
