Beaujolais beyond Nouveau
Beaujolais is Gamay country, but it is not one simple style. The best bottles can be bright, fragrant and easy to drink, or deeper and more structured when they come from old vines, granite soils and one of the crus.
Crus, villages and growers
Fleurie, Morgon, Chiroubles, Brouilly and the other crus each bring a slightly different shape to Gamay. Producer style matters heavily, especially in a region where whole-bunch fermentation, carbonic maceration and old-vine farming can change the feel of the wine.
