What makes a wine fine or rare
Sometimes it is a famous region or vineyard. Sometimes it is old vines, small production, bottle age, a sought-after producer or a wine that only appears in tiny quantities. The point is not luxury for its own sake, but bottles with extra depth, ageing potential, scarcity or occasion value.
Drinking windows and context
Some rare wines are ready to drink; others are better with time. Vintage, storage, producer style and food matter more here than on a casual bottle. If you are buying for a particular meal, gift or cellar, it is worth thinking about when the bottle will be opened.
