Why Cave selected it

A welcoming introduction to a historic Riesling producer, with the freshness and gentle fruit sweetness that make Mosel wines so versatile at the table.

About the wine

Maximin Riesling 2024 from Maximin Grünhaus is a bright, gently off-dry white from Germany’s Mosel and Ruwer valleys. Made from Riesling, it pairs crisp apple and pear with yellow plum and citrus, balanced by lively acidity.

Light on its feet at 11% alcohol, it has a little fruit sweetness that makes it particularly versatile with food. Try it with sushi, gently spiced Asian dishes, smoked fish or fresh salads.

Based in Mertesdorf in the Ruwer valley, Maximin Grünhaus is a historic estate with monastic roots, now run by Maximin and Amelie von Schubert. The Maximin range offers an approachable introduction to the family’s clear, fresh style, drawing on vineyards in both the Mosel and Ruwer.

How it is made

The estate uses natural yeast fermentation and maturation in stainless steel and neutral oak casks. The 2024 Maximin technical sheet records 11% alcohol, 16.5 g/L residual sugar and 8.1 g/L total acidity, giving a fresh off-dry style. Exact vessel proportions and ageing duration for this bottling are not specified.

Vineyard & terroir

Riesling from vineyard parcels in the Mosel and Ruwer valleys. Maximin is the producer’s introductory range and should not be described as a single-vineyard Abtsberg, Herrenberg or Bruderberg wine.
