Why Cave selected it

A characterful Loire white that brings together Chenin’s generosity, mineral depth and freshness. Give it air and time at the table.

About the wine

Les Vieux Clos 2023 is a dry, richly textured Chenin Blanc from Savennières in the Loire Valley. Ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel and floral notes sit alongside a stony, saline edge, with freshness to balance its generous shape.

The grapes come from biodynamically farmed parcels on schist, quartz and sand. Hand harvesting, native-yeast fermentation and ageing in seasoned oak give the wine time to develop its character. Open a few hours ahead or decant, and serve around 14°C with fish in beurre blanc, roast poultry or mature goat’s cheese.

Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is the Joly family’s estate in Savennières. Nicolas Joly helped pioneer biodynamic winegrowing, and his daughter Virginie now leads the daily work. Their approach centres on living vineyards and patient cellar work, allowing Chenin Blanc to express the differences between the estate’s three appellations.

How it is made

Hand-harvested at full ripeness and fermented with native yeasts. The UK importer reports ageing in old 500-litre barrels for up to six months, followed by light filtration and bottling.

Vineyard & terroir

Chenin Blanc from 5.5 hectares of mainly east-facing parcels in Savennières, on schist, quartz and sand. The estate describes vines averaging 25–30 years old and certified biodynamic farming.
