About Clos de la Coulée de Serrant
Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is the Joly family’s wine estate in Savennières, west of Angers. Its historic Coulée vineyard has been cultivated since 1130, and the family acquired the property in 1960. Nicolas Joly introduced biodynamics in 1980, extending it across the vineyards by 1983.
Virginie Joly now manages daily operations, continuing the family’s commitment to living soils and minimal intervention. The estate produces three Chenin Blanc wines from distinct appellations: Les Vieux Clos from Savennières, Clos de la Bergerie from Roche-aux-Moines, and Coulée de Serrant from the family’s monopole.
In the vineyard
Certified biodynamic farming treats the estate as a connected whole. Animals, compost, cover crops and plant preparations support vineyard life, while uncultivated areas preserve biodiversity.
In the cellar
Grapes are picked by hand in successive passes. Native yeasts carry out fermentation, with patient ageing in old oak and restrained cellar intervention. The aim is to preserve the character of each vineyard and harvest.
