The winemaking process involves partial fermentation in stainless steel vats and small wooden casks. The wine is then aged for 9 months in both steel vats and oak casks, followed by an additional 6 months of bottle fining. Elegant, flinty Chardonnay that we love!
Notes on the producer
San Giacomo di Teglio – Valtellina stands out as a unique valley in Northern Lombardy, nestled just a stone's throw away from the Swiss border. Stretching perpendicular to Val d’Adige, it boasts a landscape where only the northern slopes bask in ample sunlight, making them ideal for vine cultivation.
The Valtellina's dramatic terrain, characterised by steep slopes, is adorned with picturesque terraces that offer a breathtaking panorama of one of the most captivating wine-producing regions, aptly termed as "heroic" due to its challenging cultivation conditions. Divided into five distinct sub-zones – Valgella, Sassella, Grumello, Inferno, and Maroggia – the region exclusively cultivates Nebbiolo grapes, known locally as Chiavennasca. These indigenous grapes thrive in the high-altitude climate, combining elegance with the mineral-rich sandy soil to impart robustness and structure to the wines produced here.
Marco Fay, the son of Sandro Fay, now leads the winery, alongside his sister Elena. Their approach reflects a blend of boldness, traditional values, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Their modest yet diligent work ethic sets a commendable standard, serving as an inspiration for many in the industry.
