Pianogrillo’s Grillo is grown on the volcanic soils of southeastern Sicily at altitude, where the cooler temperatures preserve freshness and aromatic clarity. Fermented in stainless steel, it shows ripe stone fruit and citrus blossom, layered with fennel seed and greengage, finishing with the characteristic salinity of the region.
Notes on the producer
Pianogrillo is an organic estate located in Chiaramonte Gulfi, in the province of Ragusa, southeastern Sicily. Owned and managed by Lorenzo Piccione di Pianogrillo, the estate spans around 60 hectares and has been a hub of agricultural production since the 1700s. Today, it focuses on indigenous Sicilian varieties like Grillo and Nero d'Avola, cultivated with minimal intervention and sustainable practices.
The vineyards sit at elevations of around 480 meters, contributing to the tension and aromatic complexity in the wines. All farming is certified organic, and in the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and stainless steel are favored to highlight varietal purity and terroir. Pianogrillo is also known for its superb extra virgin olive oil, and their entire operation is deeply rooted in preserving the natural environment and Sicilian tradition.
