Why Cave selected it

Vivid, modern Peloponnese red from certified-organic, high-altitude vineyards, showing indigenous varieties in a fresh, food-friendly style at great value.

About the wine

The varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel at 24 degrees with native yeasts. They are gently pressed and aged on fine lees for five months – the Mavro Kalavrytino in 5000 litre foudre, the Mavrodaphne in wooden tank, and the Agiorgitiko in stainless steel. They are blended and bottled without fining or filtration. Greece's winemaking is going from strength to strength at the moment with some top producers making some top wines. Aromatic and juicy this is a great way into the good wines of the Peloponnese.

About Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos

When you visit the northern Peloponnese you will be immediately taken with the wild mountain vineyards and the bright mineral wines. Panagiotis works with native varietals, from high altitude sites cooled by the sea breezes from the Gulf of Corinth. Antiphon is made from Mavrodaphne, Agiorgitiko, Mavro Kalavrytino in a low-intervention style which allows the pure, juicy red fruit to shine through. Grapes for this blend come from three different north facing, high altitude sites in nearby villages: the Mavrodaphne at 915 metres, the Agiorgitiko at 715 metres, and the Mavro Kalavrytino at 840 metres. Soils in all the vineyards are rocky clay, the Mavro Kalavrytino are bush vines the other varietals are Guyot pruned.
