Why Cave selected it

Organically farmed, characterful white that combines citrus freshness with gentle leesy texture; versatile with food and great value from a trusted producer–importer collaboration.

About the wine

The two parcels are fermented separately. The Viura is fermented in concrete egg, before spending time on its lees. The Garnacha Blanca is fermented in stainless steel before ageing in a 500-litre neutral oak barrel. The wines are then blended before bottling without fining or filtration. This has seen some oak which you can definitely feel. It is textured and fat with that toastyness coming form the oak. A little while longer in bottle and this will be fully integrated but a lovely drop if you want something fuller bodied.

About Viña Zorzal

Lying in the south of Navarra, Viña Zorzal is a project run by three brothers who inherited the estate from their parents. The have been recuperating old vineyards and focusing on high altitude, bush-vine fruit. Their signature is a bright and juicy Garnacha Joven, packed with red fruits and great freshness. They're also making some impressive single vineyard wines from old vines which seriously over-deliver for the price. The family have a clear commitment and respect for their environment, and practice low intervention, environmentally-friendly viticulture: they don’t plough the vineyards, all processes are carried out manually, they use selected native plants for ground cover and fertilise with compost not chemicals.
