From the tough 2021 vintage, Pauline Broqua crafted two wines: a red and a white. The red blend comprises Fer Servadou, Cabernet Franc, Jurançon Noir, Negret de Banhars, and Mouyssaguès grapes, all organically grown on clay/limestone soils in two plots. Hand-harvested and semi-carbonically macerated, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation and tank aging before bottling unfined.
Notes on the producer
Pauline Broqua may be relatively new to winemaking, but the complexity and depth of this wine betrays no lack of confidence. Pauline made the switch from sommelier to vigneron in 2018 and expanded her Domaine des Buis to 7 hectares in 2019. Deeply committed to natural techniques, she uses no chemical additives and cultivates several different varieties. Alongside rows of cabernet franc, negret de banhars, and chenin grows a grape particular to a certain part of inland southwest France: known as braucol in Gaillac, it goes by the name fer servadou in the area around the town of Marcillac-Vallon, in the department of Aveyron. A rustic red from the true French countryside.
