Asturias is generally more famous for cider than wine but occasionally a real gem of a producer crops up and here is one. Easy drinking medium bodied Northern Spanish red that is well worth a punt.
The Urogallo domain is located in the village of Cangas in Asturias, a region of northern Spain between Galicia and Cantabria. Here in 2009 Nicolas Marco and Francisco Asencio have decided to embark on their adventure. Immediately they decided to practice a viticulture that could embrace the principles of biodynamics in order to obtain wines that could reflect the territory. Dominio Urogallo today has 4 hectares of vineyards that are found on fields of scarce and rich silice where 4 types of native grapes are bred; Albarin Blanco, Verdejo Negro, Carrasquin and Albarin Tinto for the production of 4 wines; 2 white and 2 red.
