Beyond one style of fizz
Champagne is the most famous sparkling region, but it is only part of the story. Pet nat can feel playful and lightly cloudy, traditional-method wines bring structure and lees detail, and simpler sparkling bottles can be bright, dry and easy to pour.
Choosing sparkling wine
For aperitifs, look for clean acidity and a dry finish. For food, richer Champagne and traditional-method wines can work with fried food, roast chicken, cheese and seafood. Pet nat is often best when you want something relaxed and refreshing.
Lambrusco ranges from pale, dry Sorbara to darker, off-dry sparkling red styles. Read our guide to Lambrusco wine to understand the grapes, sweetness levels and food pairings.
