Why Cave selected it

A precise, equal-parts Frappato/Nero d’Avola from certified-organic vineyards in the Hyblaean hills, offering vivid Sicilian fruit, balance, and versatility at the table.

About the wine

From organically farmed vineyards in Sicily’s southeastern corner, Curva Minore is a field blend of Frappato and Nero d’Avola fermented with native yeasts and aged in concrete to preserve freshness. This wine showcases vibrant red cherry and blood orange aromas, with a touch of wild herbs, reflecting both varietal purity and the Mediterranean terroir.

Notes on the producer

Located in the Ragusa province of southeastern Sicily, Domain Pianogrillo is an ancient estate with winemaking roots dating back centuries. Under the stewardship of Lorenzo Piccione di Pianogrillo, the estate is a beacon for sustainable viticulture and traditional practices. The winery is certified organic and produces wines solely from indigenous varieties, with minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar.

Curva Minore comes from high-altitude vineyards planted on limestone and clay soils, benefiting from diurnal temperature shifts that help retain acidity and aromatic complexity. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, and the wines are neither fined nor filtered. Pianogrillo’s philosophy centers on expressing the island's rich biodiversity and cultural heritage through its wines, resulting in vibrant, food-friendly bottlings that are unmistakably Sicilian.
