Why Cave selected it

A precise, refreshing Riesling from a family estate whose careful farming and patient cellar work give the wine both energy and texture.

About the wine

Josmeyer’s Le Kottabe 2023 is a dry Alsace Riesling with bright citrus, a saline edge and lively acidity. Fine-lees ageing gives a gentle texture beneath its fresh, precise character.

Made from organically and biodynamically grown Riesling, it is fermented with native yeasts and matured in old oak foudres. Serve chilled at around 10°C with seafood, sushi or Alsatian choucroute.

Founded in Wintzenheim in 1854, Josmeyer is now run by sisters Céline and Isabelle Meyer. The family estate combines careful vineyard work with patient winemaking and a longstanding connection to art, reflected in its distinctive labels.

How it is made

Hand-picked grapes undergo slow whole-bunch pneumatic pressing. Fermentation starts with native yeasts, followed by several months on fine lees in old oak foudres.

Vineyard & terroir

Riesling from the gravelly, sandy alluvial soils around Wintzenheim and Turckheim, including the Herrenweg. Organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards.
