Why Cave selected it

Bright Sangiovese fruit and supple tannins make this a versatile Tuscan red for the table.

About the wine

Fresh cherry and wild strawberry fruit meet floral notes and a gentle savoury edge. This is a bright, supple Tuscan red, with lively acidity and fine tannins that keep it easy to return to.

A blend of 90% Sangiovese with Canaiolo and Colorino, fermented in cement and matured for a year in Slavonian oak casks. Serve at cool room temperature with roast chicken, lamb, game or mature cheeses.

How it is made

Sangiovese (90%), Canaiolo (5%) and Colorino (5%). Fermented in cement vats for around 25 days, with malolactic fermentation in cement, then matured for 12 months in Slavonian oak casks.

Vineyard & terroir

Grapes from Montevertine’s vineyards around Radda in Chianti, in the hills of Tuscany. The estate sits at 425 metres above sea level.

About Montevertine

Montevertine is based in Radda in Chianti, in the hills of Tuscany at 425 metres above sea level. Sergio Manetti bought the property in 1967, planted two hectares of vines and produced his first vintage in 1971. The estate grows the traditional local varieties Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. Hand-picked grapes ferment in cement vats, with gentle extraction, before maturation in oak. The wines are bottled by gravity without filtration.
