L’Eau d’Range is a remarkable skin-contact white from Anne and Jean-François Ganevat, made from old-vine Chardonnay and Savagnin grown on the grey Lias marl soils of the Jura.
The grapes spend seven weeks fermenting on their skins before an exceptionally long élevage in seasoned demi-muids. The result is a deeply coloured and intensely textured wine, with orange peel, dried apricot, bergamot tea and gentle spice layered over a broad, savoury palate. Fine tannins, fresh acidity and a pronounced saline mineral character carry the wine through a long, complex finish.
Serve lightly chilled and give it plenty of air. Its depth and structure make it particularly good with spiced poultry, roast pork, richer fish dishes, mushrooms, washed-rind cheese and mature Comté.
Notes on the producer
Anne and Jean-François Ganevat produce both domaine wines from their family holdings in the Jura and a wider négociant range made from carefully sourced fruit. Their approach combines meticulous farming with long, patient élevage and very little intervention in the cellar.
Fermentations take place with indigenous yeasts, and many cuvées are bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphur. Even the more experimental wines retain the precision, energy and mineral character for which Ganevat has become renowned.
