Champs Poids is a single-site Jura Chardonnay from vines planted in 1986 on Bajocian limestone near Arbois. Extended ageing on fine lees in old demi-muids gives the wine remarkable depth and texture without diminishing its characteristic mineral energy.
Golden apple, ripe pear and white peach are joined by dried flowers, gentle spice and a subtle touch of toasted hazelnut. The palate is broad and creamy but held in balance by bright acidity, chalky minerality and a long, saline finish.
Serve lightly chilled and give it time to open in the glass—or decant it briefly. Excellent with roast poultry, turbot or monkfish, creamy mushroom dishes, Comté and other mature alpine cheeses.
Notes on the producer
Jean-François Ganevat returned to his family’s domaine in Rotalier in 1998 after gaining experience in Burgundy. He now produces an extraordinary range of highly individual Jura wines from small, carefully farmed parcels.
Long élevage, indigenous fermentations and a restrained approach in the cellar are central to the domaine’s work. The wines combine the concentration and texture associated with fine Burgundy with the tension, salinity and distinctive character of the Jura.
