What does it taste like?

Ripe pear, white peach and lemon zest lead into a broad, satin-textured palate. The 2020 has generous Mâconnais fruit, but a firm line of acidity and chalky salinity keep it focused, with subtle pastry and hazelnut notes emerging on the finish.

Why Cave selected it

A mature, single-parcel Saint-Véran from one of the Mâconnais’ benchmark domaines: generous enough for rich dishes, but driven by the freshness and mineral detail that makes serious white Burgundy compelling.

About the wine

Tasting Notes

Ripe pear, white peach and lemon zest lead into a broad, satin-textured palate. The 2020 has generous Mâconnais fruit, but a firm line of acidity and chalky salinity keep it focused, with subtle pastry and hazelnut notes emerging on the finish.

Producer

La Soufrandière is the Bret brothers’ family domaine in Vinzelles, at the southern end of Burgundy. Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret farm the estate organically and biodynamically, treating each parcel separately and favouring long, patient élevage.

How it is made

Hand-harvested Chardonnay is whole-bunch pressed, then aged for 11 months in barrel followed by six months in tank. The wine is bottled without filtration.

Vineyard & terroir

La Bonnode is a two-hectare, east-facing parcel at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson, around 250 metres above sea level. The roughly 35-year-old Chardonnay vines grow on clay-limestone soils.
