The vineyard practices biodynamic farming with hand-harvested fruit. Grapes are carefully whole-cluster pressed, and the juice undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in a combination of neutral oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged on its fine lees for around 10 months with minimal intervention—no bâtonnage, no filtration, and very limited sulphur additions. This approach allows the mineral-rich granite terroir to shine through, resulting in a fresh, energetic wine that reflects Alsace’s unique stony soils.
Notes on the producer
Christophe Beck and Etienne Hartweg craft expressive and vibrant wines from their family vineyards nestled in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. Farming biodynamically since 2010, they focus on low yields and healthy, balanced vines to capture the purity of Alsace’s granite soils. Their cellar philosophy centers on gentle handling and natural fermentation, avoiding additives and unnecessary manipulations to reveal the true character of their terroir. The Beck-Hartweg team works with a mix of traditional and modern methods, fermenting primarily in old oak barrels and stainless steel, and aging wines on lees without stirring to maintain freshness. Their wines have garnered acclaim for their clarity, energy, and seamless expression of Alsace’s cooler climate.
