Why Cave selected it

Classic, great-value Atlantic Mencía: vibrant fruit, low alcohol and minimal oak, transparent to place and highly versatile with food.

About the wine

The Tinto is Guimaro’s entry level, or “Joven”, and it is sourced from several parcels of 40+ year old Mencia co-planted with small quantities of several other indigenous grape varieties. These vineyards are hand harvested, de-stemmed and fermented using only indigenous yeast in stainless steel. This red offers suppleness that makes it quite accessible and charming.

About Adegas Guímaro

One of the leaders of the Ribeira Sacra appellation, this estate is now under the expertise of the talented Pedro Manuel Rodràguez Pérez. It is the immense potential of the abandoned Galician terraces that caught the eye of his father and ancestors. They were without a doubt pioneers of the region's revival. Ribiera Sacra is a very special place—in fact it literally translates “Sacred Bank—these vineyards were first terraced and planted by the Romans 2000 years ago. The climate is heavily influenced by the Atlantic which contributes to its affinity for the Mencia grape.
