Château de Bonnezeaux

Loire France

Château de Bonnezeaux’s history goes back to the early 19th Century, however it had not made a bottle for over 3 decades until Louis-Edgard de Pinieux inherited the Estate from his wife. The Domaine had been abandoned for a generation, the vines unmanaged and the buildings in ruins. They managed to save 2 parcels of old vines, La Montagne and la Vieille Vignes. A cousin of Louis. Guyonne who had worked with Mark Angeli of Domaine de la Sansonnière took over the running of the Domaine, before unfortunately falling ill. In 2019, Pierre Boisseau and oenologue Florian Zuliani joined the Domaine. They purchased a further 3 hectares to make 6 hectares in total. The archaic French wine laws have kept some vignerons from pushing the boundaries of what has been capable in this famous sweet wine region. These dry wines are labelled with the humble Vin de France label. They are farmed with organic practices and have minimal sulphur additions resulting in a wide spectrum of aromas and elements.
