Why Cave selected it

Organically farmed old vines and a deft, unoaked style deliver Rasteau power with freshness—versatile with hearty autumn and game dishes.

About the wine

Garance is a natural dye, made from herbs found in the vines, that produces a deep red colour. Made from the oldest parcels of vines on the property, around 70yo, this wine was destalked 100%, vinified in amphora, then aged in cement. Unfined and lightly filtered with less than 40mg/l of total sulphur. Spicy and elegant. Bring on the cold and the game.

Notes on the producer

The Luminaille farm, once acquired by Julie's great-grandparents, is now known as Domaine la Luminaille. The latest addition to the Rasteau appellation, the Domaine takes its name from the brightness of the olive leaves on full moon nights.

The vineyard is composed of 11 hectares of vines, 6 hectares of woods and a field of olive trees. Raised on hillsides at an altitude of 250 metres, the vines thrive on a terroir of clay-limestone marl, with blue and grey clays. Julie started out as a sommelier in Paris, but in 2014 she returned to the south of France, to Rasteau, her native land, to take over the family business. Today she is a winemaker at Domaine "La Luminaille" and produces quality wines, in an artisanal and organic approach. She wants to make "Terroir" wines, typical of Rasteau, with great freshness and elegance.

About Domaine La Luminaille

Domaine La Luminaille is Julie Paolucci’s family estate in Rasteau, in the southern Rhône. After working as a sommelier in Paris, Julie returned in 2014 and made her first vintage in 2015, becoming the fifth generation on the farm and the first to vinify her own cuvées. The organically farmed vineyards share the landscape with woodland and olive trees. Hand harvesting and careful vineyard work underpin wines shaped by Rasteau’s clay, limestone and contrasting hillside sites.
