Why Cave selected it

Rare Burgundian expression of Melon de Bourgogne with brisk minerality and organic farming; a distinctive, great-value white that bridges Muscadet freshness and Vézelay texture.

About the wine

Grapes are harvested by hand from vines of an average age of 30 years. Juices are fermented with native yeasts only and aged for a further 5 months in stainless steel before bottling. Made from 100% Melon Blanc which is very rarely found in Burgundy these days. Think Muscadet meets Chablis!

Notes on the producer

La Soeur Cadette is based in Vezelay, a relatively new Burgundy appellation that was brought to life in 1997. It operates as a negociants between like-minded friends, all with a joint dedication to growing organic vines across the Cot d'Or. The intention is to make honest and authentic wines which reflect the distinctive character of their region and the climate of a particular year. Alongside the classic Burgundy varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, La Soeur Cadette also work with the ancient red variety César - named after the Emperor and brought to France during the Roman invasion - and a Burgundian mutation of Melon de Bourgogne. It is a fascinating project, making delicious, imaginative wines in the classic region.
