Who are they?

The Pianogrillo farm is an ancient Sicilian fief, in the Iblei mountains in Chiaramonte Gulfi, and has belonged to the Piccione di Pianogrillo barons for centuries. In Pianogrillo they produce high quality, well-known extra virgin olive oil and , since a few years, also wine, all with organic and biodynamic methods. The average altitude is about 480m/asl, with calcareous clay soils, cool and windy nights even in summer. Everything on the farm is aimed at safeguarding nature and respecting the natural environment. As a result, they produce excellent quality wines that reflect the original character of the place.

This case contains three offerings in three styles, white, orange and a red from Italian producers Pianogrillo.

Whats in the box?

Pianogrillo, Grecanico, 2022

Organic wine, made with this indigenous Sicilian variety. After the harvest, the grapes quickly reach the winery. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Then fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Ageing for 6 months on the fine lees follows. Lime zest & white flowers on the nose with pears, white peaches and with a gentle mineral finish.

Pianogrillo, Flaneur, 2021

Flaneur is the latest addition to the Pianogrillo portfolio. A light orange wine that is a lovely way int this other style of wine. It is obtained exclusively from Grillo grapes with a short maceration on skins for 5 days and aged only in stainless steel.

Pianogrillo, Frappato, 2022

This Frappato comes from vines planted on calcareous and clay soils facing south at 480 metres above sea level. The grapes are selected and harvested by hand and, once they reach the winery, they are destemmed, pressed and fermented on the skins for several days. The wine is then transferred to 22-hectolitre oak barrels where it will remain for at least 12 months before bottling. Light juicy and the perfect Spring/Summertime red.
