This micro property in the Médoc is run by Pascale Choime and Laurence Alias, who respectively handle winemaking and farming. Farming organically from the start they are now part of a group of Margaux-based Domaines who regularly share their experiences on biodynamic farming and pull together to make their preparations. Everything is done by hand in the vineyard, and they are helped by Jumpa a Trait-Breton horse who ploughs the soils.

Laurence and Pascale like to experiment and vinify in all kind of vessels, making fresh, nuanced and terroir-driven wines. They also intuitively understand that Bordeaux can produce wines with great finesse and purity of fruit at perfectly adequate, low levels of sulphur (30mg/l total or below).

A blend of Merlot and Malbec from vines cultivated organically and planted in the communes of Saint Seurin de Cursac, near Blaye, and Saint Jean de Duras in the southwest. This is labelled VDF as it is a negoce cuvée made from purchased grapes from vignerons who share the same values. As for the winemaking, the approach is natural, as we’ve come to expect from the two women, with fermentations in vats, then transfer into barrels. Just a microdose of sulphur at bottling this is a Bordeaux we would drink any day of the week, fresher, crunchier and greener. Love it.

Closeries de Moussis are part of a new wave of Bordeaux wine makers making a lighter and fresher style of wine and we really appreciate their amazing efforts.
