A true Andalusian wine, the Pedro Ximénez comes from a site in the Moriles Altos grown on the chalky Albariza soils. The Moscatel de Alejandría is grown on slate soils in Axarquía, Málaga. No pesticides or herbicides are used and due to the climate, there are few problems with diseases. All the vineyard work, from pruning to picking is done by hand. This has a lovely balance between saltyness, texture and aromatics and is well worth a punt! Good stuff.
Notes on the Producer
The proprietors, Clara Verheij and Andre Both, emigrated from Holland in search of a southern Spanish way of life. The property they bought had some abandoned vineyards which they set about restoring, as they were already keen wine enthusiasts. With great raw materials and terroir - old Moscatel vines, Axarquía slate soils, good altitude and fantastic climate - great wines soon followed.
"Bodegas Bentomiz is a boutique winery in the Malaga hills but within sight of the Mediterranean sea. Our 80 to 100-year-old vines enjoy an ideal environment: they flourish in the slate soils, benefitting from a benign climate and cooling sea breezes. With a combination of modern and traditional vinification techniques we produce a range of fresh and delicate wines."
